How to Play
The Basics
Standard chess rules. White moves first, then players alternate. Each piece moves and captures according to its usual pattern — pawns, knights, bishops, rooks, queens, and kings all behave as in the standard game.
Special Moves
Castling, en passant, and pawn promotion are all implemented. When a pawn reaches the last rank you'll be asked to choose its new piece.
Check & Checkmate
A king in check must be moved out of danger, blocked, or the attacker captured. Checkmate — a check with no way out — ends the game. A position with no legal moves and no check is a stalemate, a draw.
The Opponent
The engine searches moves ahead using alpha-beta pruning. Set how deep it looks with the Difficulty selector — deeper search plays stronger, but takes longer to think.
